Meldeath: A travelers blog from Anthony's trip to Melbourne.

Wednesday afternoon.
Vel and I started talking and I mentioned Misty's Diner, and she said we should totally go, but after after realizing she can't spend any of her money, she got online and got some off a guy who always gives her money. So, we decided we'd train it to Melbourne.

Thursday morning.
After some Western Union problems the previous night, we were off in the car to Cash Stop in the dirty heart of Campbelltown. So we get the money, go to the bank, then head to Macarthur for lunch.

Thursday afternoon.
We head to Campbelltown station to wait for the train but decided to grab some dinner at Macarthur. Subway was good, then back to Campbelltown station for an hour before the train came.

Thursdday evening.
The train arrives at 9.32, 2 minutes late, not that it bothered me. I thought to myself as I was finding my seats, 12 hours won't be that bad, at least I can get some sleep. I was half wrong.
I stayed awake until about midnight when the hot blonde in front of us got off the train. This was my chance to have my own seat, hopefully I could get some sleep. Which I did, until 3am when I went to the buffet car to get a Coke. Back to sleep until 5am to watch the sunrise.

Friday morning.
The 5-6am sunrise was amazing, pollution makes the sun look ugly. The train arrived at Southern Cross station at 7.30, 20 minutes early. So there I was in a new city. Melbourne without a doubt is a far better city than Sydney. It's so clean, and there are trams everywhere. Why walk up the main street when you can tram it for free. So we headed off to Misty's Diner for breakfast. A tram here, a missed stop here, a walk there and another tram one stop and we were finally at the diner, which was empty. It looked much better on the website. After a expensive small meal and some grape soda, we headed out of the building, which felt like it was moving the whole time we were in it.

Friday day-afternoon.
From Misty's Diner we headed down to the train station and trained it to Prahran. Here we had to call a cab because it was a small suburb and cabs were limited. It eventually came but didn't stop, or come back, so we had to go train it back one stop and get a cab from there. $12 away was USA Foods, another building which felt like it was moving. Outside the store a truck drove by and I got it to toot it's horn. Funny every time. So we both bought some stuff and cabbed it back to the (wrong) station where we trained it back to the city to dump our shit in some lockers.
So at 4pm, we needed lunch. It took so long to get back to Misty's Diner. We missed the tram stop, had to tram it back, got off early, walk to the wrong street, get ignored by assholes when we asked for help, got off early again when I thought the tram went the wrong way, then eventually got there and had another overpriced small meal. So back to the city. While walking through the pouring rain to the train station, we got some free V. The train didn't leave for another 90 minutes so we had to wait in a heated room, watching ugly people walk past and a weird guy come in and talk to himself.

Friday evening.
The train left 10 minutes late, and it was freezing until we got on the train. This time we were in different seats, at the front of the damn carriage. Right near the door, and right above the wheels. Same deam, stayed awake til about midnight, and waited for people to get off the train. But it never happened! Whoever got off, more people came on, so I had to try and get to sleep with Vel next to me, in MY window seat. I got woken up every half an hour by the door opening or the sound of the wheels screeching. I was so glad when we got into Campbelltown at around 7am.

Saturday morning.
After arriving in Campbelltown, I decided to train it home, carrying my box of Dr Pepper all the way. Short trip since I fell asleep.

So that's a brief overview of my first and hopefully not last trip to Melbourne.

Saturday evening.
I jumped off a proverbial cliff and fell into love.

Until next post.
namaste.
